The VMC is excited to announce their first Calf School coming up March 8 & 9th. As a clinic, we have noticed there is a lack of calf management education available to our producers and we would like to bring that to our clients. The Calf School will consist of two days hosted by Dr. Barber, Dan and I. There will be both English and Spanish sessions available.

Day 1 will include Calf Care Basics. General new born calf care will be discussed, along with necessary feed and environment management to grow a healthy strong calf. Topics to be covered include: colostrum management, cleanliness of calf equipment, milk replacer management, housing, and automatic calf feeder management. A Calf Care Basics tool kit will be sent home at the end of Day 1.

Day 2 will cover Calf disease and diagnostics. Day 2 attendees must attend Day 1 in order to attend Day 2. Field diagnostics and disease identification and management will be discussed. Topics to be covered include: total protein collection and measurement, necropsy basics, deep nasal pharyngeal swab collection, calf scour identification and management, calf pneumonia identification and management, and many more. A Calf diagnostics tool kit will be sent home at the end of Day 2.

We are excited to offer this to our clients to further broaden their calf health and management knowledge. Give us a call if you would like more information!
